The Family

We finally got a picture of the baby Acorn Woodpecker with the adults. He is already quite large and eats on his own but we have seen him being fed several times by the adults too. Black Oil Sunflower seeds are their favorite seeds and they are active morning and evening. They also often show up mid day when we are eating lunch. What a joy to watch!

The Joy of Summer

The garden is producing big time and tomatoes of all varieties are ready to eat. I'm dreaming of BLTs!

Home Sweet Home

I love the feeling I get when coming back to the house. Doesn't matter how long we've been gone, maybe just to the store...it's always good to be home.

Baby vs. Window

We heard a big thud and ran into the kitchen. Couldn't see anything amiss so I went outside and there found the baby Woody on the ground under the window. I picked him up and stroked his feathers and then set him on the outdoor counter. He was stunned but blinking his eyes. His feathers were so beautiful up close and he didn't try to fly away. Callie cat was extremely interested!

We let him sit and recover and after several minutes he flew away. Sorry this happened little buddy but seeing you up close and holding you was so cool. Now go forth and have a good life...but watch for windows!  I can't quite believe we held a woodpecker!! Wow.

Circling

This Hawk was circling in the front yard.

And then suddenly there were fifteen way up high. I wonder if they were hunting or were they just enjoying the beautiful summer day.

Chicken Avocados

An Avocado tree grew as a volunteer where the chicken pen used to be. It's in an odd place but we didn't have the heart to pull it out. It was so healthy and growing so fast. Now it is producing buckets of Avocados. We don't know what variety they are. It's not Haas but they are good. Lucky us!
